Abstract: Penelitian dengan topik pengaruh macam bahan kemasan dan kondisi ruang penyimpanan terhadap kualitas fisik dan fisiologis benih kedelai verietas Grobogan telah dilakukan pada 04 Januari – 17 Juni 2011 di Laboratorium Benih Fakultas Pertanian dan Bisnis UKSW. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah 1) mengetahui pengaruh macam bahan kemasan dan kondisi ruang penyimpanan terhadap kualitas fisik dan fisiologis benih kedelai. 2) mengetahui macam bahan kemasan dan kondisi ruang penyimpanan yang paling sesuai untuk penyimpanan benih kedelai varietas Grobogan. Rancangan dasar yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan kombinasi macam bahan kemasan dan kondisi ruang penyimpanan. Kombinasi macam bahan kemasan dan kondisi ruang penyimpanan tersebut adalah P1: bahan plastik pada kondisi ruang biasa, P2: bahan alumunium foil pada kondisi ruang biasa, P3: bahan polietilen pada kondisi ruang biasa, P4: bahan plastik pada kondisi ruang AC, P5: bahan alumunium foil pada kondisi ruang AC, P6: bahan polietilen pada kondisi ruang AC. Analisis data pengamatan utama menggunakan analisis sidik ragam dan untuk mengetahui pengaruh antar perlakuan menggunakan uji BNJ pada taraf kepercayaan 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, penggunaan berbagai bahan kemasan (plastik, alumunium foil, dan polietilen) dengan penyimpanan pada kondisi ruang AC relatif mampu mempertahankan kualitas fisiologis benih kedelai varietas Grobogan dibandingkan bila disimpan pada kondisi ruang biasa. Penyimpanan pada kondisi ruang biasa terjadi peningkatan kadar air (KA) benih bila dikemas dalam plastik dan polietilen, tetapi dalam kemasan alumunium foil mampu mempertahankan KA benih.Bobot 1000 (B1000) butir dalam kemasan polietilen dan disimpan pada kondisi ruang biasa cenderung terendah, sedangkan B1000 butir dalam kemasan plastik dan disimpan pada kondisi ruang AC relatif tertinggi. Penyimpanan pada kondisi ruang AC relative mampu mempertahankan kualitas fisiologis benih dibandingkan dengan kondisi ruang biasa. Bahan kemasan alumunium foil yang paling baik dalam hal mempertahankan kualitas fisik maupun fisiologis benih bila disimpan pada kondisi ruang AC.
This research on the effect of different kinds of packaging and room storage conditions on the physical and physiological quality of Grobogan-variety soybean seeds was conducted at the Seed Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture and Business at UKSW between January 4, 2011 and June 17, 2011. The goals of the study were: 1) to determine the effects of various packaging materials and storage room conditions on the physical and physiological quality of soybean seeds, and 2) to learn which packaging materials and storage room conditions were most suitable for storing soybean seeds. The research design used in this study was randomized block design using a combination of types of packaging materials and different storage conditions. These combinations included the following: 1) plastic bags at room temperature, 2) aluminum foil at room temperature, 3) polyethylene bags at room temperature, 4) plastic bags in an air-conditioned room, 5) aluminum foil in an air-conditioned room, and 6) polyethylene bags in an air-conditioned room. An analysis of variance was used to analyze the principle data. Honestly Significant Difference test (HSD) with a 5% measure of error (95% level of confidence) was used to determine the influence of different control variables. This study showed that storing the various packaging materials (plastic bags, aluminum foil, and polyethylene bags) in an air-conditioned room was relatively more effective in preserving the physiological quality Grobogan-variety soybean seeds than storing them at room temperature. Seeds stored at room temperature had an increase in seed moisture content (MC) when packaged in plastic and polyethylene bags. When packaged in aluminum foil, the seed MC was preserved. The weight of 1000 (W1000) seeds stored in polyethylene bags at room temperature tended to be low, whereas the W1000 seeds in plastic packaging stored in an air-conditioned room was relatively high. Using air-conditioning to store the seeds was comparatively superior in preserving the quality Grobogan-variety soybean seeds to using room temperature. Aluminum foil was the best packaging material to preserve the physical and physiological quality of the seeds in an air-conditioned room.
