Performance appraisal (PA) on employees is a process that was made by an organisation in order to evaluate performance of the employees. Through this assessment, employees are expected to be motivated to carry out their duties in accordance with organisational goals. In 2009, Gereja Masehi Injili di Timor (GMIT) decided to apply PA to their workers (priest). This decision generated diferent responses among the priest. Through this research, the writer is going to analyze the responses of priest about implementation of PA, moreover about aspects, indicators, and standard that used in guidelines of PA in GMIT. The result shows that there are different responses from the priest toward implementation of PA, moreover about aspects, indicators, and standard that used in guidelines of PA in GMIT. This responses may occur for several reasons: 1) There are different understandings among priest about the objective of performance appraisal due to the lack of socialization of the program. 2) Priest as employees feel that they are not involved in the process of making guidelines of PA in GMIT. 3) The aim of PA is rated by the priest as something that unrelated with organisational rules about position, salary, mutation, and principium of presbiterial-sinodal which is adopted by GMIT. Standard of PA regulation that has been used is rated by the priest as something that difficult to be meassured and it could not be used to assess the quality of priest's work as servant of the people.
