Abstract: The objectives of this study is to produce yield and α-tocopherol content of millet seed oil (Pennisetum sp.) as revealed by the extraction time. Data were analyzed by Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD), 5 treatments and 5 replications. As the treatments are the extraction time: 12; 15; 18; 21; and 24 hours, respectively, while as the block is the time analysis. The α-tocopherol content of millet seed oil analysed using High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The results of the study showed that the period of extraction time gives effect to the yield and α-tocopherol content of millet seed oil. The yield of millet seed oil increased in relation to the period of extraction time, on the contrary, the α-tocopherol content decreased. Within 24 hours of extraction time period produce the optimal yield of millet seed oil which is 3,95 ±0,05% with the lowest α-tocopherol content which is 0,12 mg/g (crude oil). Furtheron, using 12 hours of extraction time period produce the lowest yield of millet seed oil which is 3,14 0,04% with the optimal α-tocopherol content which is 0,36 mg/g (crude oil). The physco-chemical characterization of millet seed oil in 12 hours of extraction time period are as follows: moisture content 0%, peroxide 47,33 mgek/kg , and saponification value of 150,41 mg KOH/g oil ,respectively.
