Abstract: The use of English subtitle in watching movie of students can enrich their vocabolary and also it can teach them on how to deal with some unfamiliar vocabulary. This study tried to investigate on how the second language students use the tecniques of guessing from the context in finding the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary they found when wathcing movie. The data consited of the result of observation and interview of bilingual student of the faculty of language and literature, Satya Wacana Christian University which were extracted, clasified, and gathered into several categories based on the six tecniques of guessing from the context by Tornbury (2002). This discussion used the clear transcriptionof the interview result to classify the answer belong to the clasification profided. The classifications of 5 responsses were arranged based on the answer of the participants. The finding suggested that making a guess teknique used by the participants was the main technique in dealing wit hunfamiliar vocabulary when watching a movie with English subtitle. For more substantial results in the future, researchersmay condiser larger numbers of participant to observe the use of movie subtitle in vocabulary learning process. This study was expected to give a new way for students to enrich their vocabulary and improve their language skills when watching movie with English subtitle.
