Orang Dayak Melawan Tambang: Studi Gerakan Sosial Baru dalam Ruang Publik Virtual

Abstract

The negative impact of the implementation of development with the influx of multinational mining company, PT Indo Muro Kencana (IMK) in Murung Raya is the basis why the Dayak Siang Murung living in rural Oreng Kambang protest was later to develop into the resistance movement. It starts with using the identity of the movement as "miners" and with the passage of time is transformed into the identity of the movement "indigenous people" by utilizing the virtual public space. The question arises who stimulate the curiosity of researchers; (1) how the movement against the mine can evolve? (2) factors such as whether that support the success of the movement against the mine? and (3) to what extent the role of virtual public space in favor of the mining resistance movement? With the support of social movement theory that emphasizes political economy perspective, the chosen case study method with qualitative approach in order to answer the research questions. The results showed that PT IMK is a source of conflict because of practices evictions encourage the emergence of resistance movements. Beginning with protests evolved into a resistance movement miners who kemudiaan identity evolved into Dayak Indigenous resistance movement in virtual public space. This study found that the theoretical success of a social movement is determined by how far the actions of resistance that is used to frame the discourse in order to create in order to obtain the support of the actors both personal and kognitif in virtual public space as the channel resistance.
