Abstract: | Phenolic compounds are hazardous pollutants that are toxic, difficult to degraded, and also cause taste and smell in the water. This research intended to find out whether in sediment of Kreo River can occur degradation of phenol under anaerobic conditions, and also want to known which redox conditions (met hanogenesis, denitrification, sulfate-reduction, or denitrification-sulfate reduction) that can be faster to degrade the phenol compounds. This experimental had been tasted the influence of variations redox from four culture into phenol degradation. Culture A under the conditions without addition electron acceptors from outside, culture B under the conditions of denitrification, culture B under the conditions of sulfate-reduction, and culture D under the conditions of denitrification-sulfate reduction. Experimental results showed that the phenol degradation rate which occur in the condition of denitri ficationsulfate reduction is not significant difference (p>O.OS). But, based on the stoichiometric calculation of electron acceptors using, known that the dominan redox in sediment of Kreo River is nitrate. |
