Abstract: This study searched for the strategies used by teachers and the reasons behind the use of the strategies in elementary school context. This study purposes were to find the strategies which commonly used by teachers and the reasons why they use the strategies in their classes in teaching and learning process. This study was conducted in 2016/2017 academic year. Qualitative research procedure was used in this study. Two teachers from Sekolah Dasar (SD) Kristen Satya Wacana became the participants for this study. Classrooms observations and interviews for further data from the teachers were done to collect the data for this study. The data analysis shows that the use of L1 and classroom rules were the most common strategies used by both teachers in their classrooms to manage their classes. The reasons behind the use of the strategies consisted of; students’ behaviors, students’ achievements, students’ moods, teachers’ beliefs, and inclusive classroom setting.
