Designing A Corpus-Based Dictionary of K-3 Vocabulary in When English Rings A Bell; English Textbook for Junior High School Students

Abstract

This study is about to design a compatible dictionary for Junior High School students grade VII, VIII, and IX.The data for this study are vocabularies taken from When English Rings a Bell; English textbook for Junior High School students based on K3 group. Vocabulary in language learning plays a significant role because it helps students in developing other necessary skills. This corpus can help students in their language learning improvement, and be their tool to support them in the learning process. The sample vocab items were collected from the book after deleting the proper nouns, phonetic transcript, number, Indonesian words and the pictures or illustrations. The analysis of those vocabularies used an online tool that is vocabulary profiler and corpus concordance. It is available in the vocabulary profiler to select the sample sentences for the dictionary. Finally, the findings from this study show the example sentences from 18 grammatical features, to mention a few are; adjectives, conjunctions, and pronouns. This study enhances our understanding of vocabularies and grammatical features in each context.
