Abstract: This study aims to find motivational strategies used by student-teachers during their teaching practicum period. The research was done because in my observation many student-teachers find it challenging to motivate learners. The study is also conducted to help the student-teachers to be in giving motivation better. I used the categorization proposed by Dornyei (2001) to classify the motivational strategies. This study was done by interviewing ten participants. The result of the study indicates that many student-teachers mostly used basic motivational strategies in teaching the learners. The basic motivational strategies are showing good impression, building good relationship and communication with the students, developing the personal relationship with the students, using ice-breakers or warming up, and creating a pleasant atmosphere in the classroom.
