Abstract: One of the important keys, in order to be fluent in the English language, is through listening. Listening skill is an ability that is used for understanding the language itself. It is also one of the important skills that people actively use in daily lives. For learning the English language in Faculty of Language and Arts of Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana Salatiga, there are several listening classes. One of them is an Intensive listening class. Among the freshmen who are taking the listening class, one of the classes is considered as a difficulty for the freshmen, which is the Intensive Listening class. In this class, the freshmen seem to be quite anxious in attending the class, and because of that anxiety, it is hard for them to attend the class comfortably. Even though not all the freshmen thought the same, listening is still often to be considered as a complex skill among the freshmen even for sophomore or older students. Thus, this research aims to look up for the students’ source of anxiety and ways to remedy it. The participants in this study will be 2017’s freshmen. The data is collected through interview and questionnaire to the students. The findings revealed that 46 out of 80 students admitted that they felt anxious while the remaining 34 students admitted they did not feel anxious during the Intensive Listening. From this research, the symptoms, levels, and the freshmen’s reason for being anxious in the Intensive Listening class will be explained.
