Abstract: | The main greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector are CH4, which is 67% of total agricultural sector emissions, followed by N2O (30%) and CO2 (3%). GHG emissions from livestock come from two activities, namely: first, livestock digestion activities (enteric fermentation) and; second, manure management. Livestock manure contributes greatly to global emissions of ammonia (NH3) and greenhouse gas (GHG), especially methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O). Storage of animal waste in anaerobic conditions also produces methane emissions. One way to mitigate GHGs from the livestock sector is by processing manure into biogas. The purpose of this study is to obtain information on greenhouse gas emissions from the management of manure. The study was carried out at the field experiment of Indonesian Center for Rice Research (ICRR) in Subang, West Java in November 2013. Examples of greenhouse gas emissions in the management of livestock manure were carried out on piles of cow dung and biogas installations. Gas samples from piles of animal manure were taken at 2 different locations each with 3 replications. The results showed an average CH4 flux of 23.33 mg/m/day and an average N2O flux of 1533 µg/m3/day. Whereas for biogas the concentration of N2O ranged from 493.21 to 706.10 ppb, CH4 concentrations ranged from 26,091.25 to 225,151.65 ppm and CO2 concentrations ranged from 35,774.69 to 191,749.70 ppm. |
