Abstract: | The practice of PBL in classrooms has been explored involving several aspects. However, there are limitations in examining PBL practice in EFL classroom from students’ point of view. Thus, this study was conducted to reveal the use of PBL in an EFL Classroom in a private university in Central Java, Indonesia, from the students’ point of view. The research was conducted in the third semester of the 2017/2018 academic year. The researcher gathered the students’ perceptions of the use of PBL in Current Issues in Applied Lingusitics (CIApL) classrooms through direct interviews with 10 students from different groups. During the CIApL course, students needed to work in a small group and lead a workshop called Group-Led Workshop (GLW). Thematic analysis was used to interpret the data. Moreover, the results were divided into two big themes, namely working with supportive group members and learning opportunities gained form the group workshop. The main findings revealed that project based learning, in this case, through the GLW, could enhance the positive learning environment since it can activate students’ sense to compete and collaborate positively with others through the group work by preparing the workshop well. In addition, it can also play a role as an excellent approach to learn from peer feedback as it appeared to be a positive movement. |
