Abstract: The use of the first language in foreign language classroom has been debated recently, including in Indonesia. Further, there is also controversy on the implementation of the Pioneering International Standard School (RSBI) which is related to the use of Indonesian in teaching English in RSBI. Regarding this issue, this research was conducted to explore more about the English teachers‟ perspectives of using Indonesian in teaching English in RSBI SMAN 1 Salatiga. The method used in this study was qualitative method. Besides, observations and interviews were conducted to gain richer data about the English teachers‟ perspectives of using Indonesian in teaching English in RSBI SMAN 1 Salatiga. The finding of the research showed that Indonesian might be needed in teaching English in RSBI SMAN 1 Salatiga in particular and in Indonesian RSBI in general. However, the use of Indonesian should be in the appropriate portion and for the particular purposes in the particular situations.
