Abstract: | Krom (Cr) adalah logam yang berperan penting pada berbagai industry tetapi sayangnya limbah yang dihasilkan biasanya mengandung krom (VI). Krom(VI) sangat berbahaya karena memiliki daya oksidasi yang tinggi. Pencemaran Cr(VI) dapat diatasi dengan fitoremediasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui respons fisiologis dan akumulasi krom Sonchus oleraceous terhadap toksisitas Cr(VI) sehingga diperoleh gambaran apakah S. oleraceous berpotensi sebagai agen fitoremediasi krom atau tidak. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menanam S. oleraceous usia sepuluh minggu secara hidroponik pada media Hoagland full strength dan pasir steril mengandung Cr(VI) (0; 1,75; 3,5, 7; 14; dan 28 μg.g-1 berat kering pasir) selama dua minggu. Parameter yang diamati pada akhir penelitian adalah berat basah, berat kering, kadar air, jumlah daun, panjang akar, kandungan pigmen fotosintesis, aktivitas katalase, dan akumulasi krom total. Kandungan pigmen dan aktivitas katalase diukur dengan spektrofotometer sedangkan akumulasi krom diukur dengan AAS. Hasil dianalisis menggunakan One-Way ANOVA atau Kruskal-Wallis pada tingkat signifikasi 5%. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi Cr(VI) maka berat basah, berat kering, kadar air, jumlah daun, dan panjang akar cenderung menurun. Kandungan pigmen cenderung mengalami penurunan dibandingkan kontrol pada perlakuan 1,75 dan 3,5 μg.g-1 tetapi mengalami peningkatan pada perlakuan 7; 14; 28 μg.g-1. Aktivitas katalase tidak menunjukkan perbedaan nyata antarperlakuan. Konsentrasi krom di akar dan pucuk lebih tinggi daripada media meskipun cenderung diakumulasi di akar. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi krom media persentase penurunan krom di media cenderung menurun. Dengan demikian, S. oleraceous diduga berpotensi sebagai agen fitostabilisasi dalam fitoremediasi krom. Chromium is an important metal that is used in some industries but unfortunately the released waste usually containing chromium(VI). Chromium(VI) is a hazardous pollutant due to its high level of oxidation. Cr(VI) pollution could be overcome with phytoremediation. This research is conducted to find out physological responses and chromium accummulation of Sonchus oleraceous towards toxicity of Cr(VI), hence further conclusion could be drawn whether S. oleraceous is potential to be chromium phytoremediation agent or not. The research was conducted through planting the ten-week old S.oleraceous hydroponically using full-strength Hoagland and sterilized sand which contain Cr(VI) 0, 1.75, 3.5, 7, 14, and 28 μg.g-1 dry weight sand and was raised for two weeks. Parameters being used to draw conclusion includes fresh weight, dry weight, water content, numbers of leaves, length of roots, photosynthesis pigment content, catalase activity as well as chromium accummulation. The results were analized using One-Way ANOVA or Kruskal - Wallis at the significant level of 5%. The higher of Cr(VI) concentration level becomes, the lower fresh weight, dry weight, water content, number of leaves and length of roots will be. The pigment content at treatment 1.75 and 3.5 μg.g-1 tends to decrease when it is compared with control, however, it increases towards treatment 7, 14, and 28 μg.g-1. Catalase activity does not show significant differennce among treatments. Chromium concentration in roots and shoots is higher than in medium although chromium tends to be accumulated in roots. The higher of chromium concentration level becomes, the lower percentage of chromium reduction in medium will be. Thus, S. oleraceous may has potency as phytostabilisation agent in chromium phytoremediation process. |
