Abstract: Listening is one of the most important skills in English language learning. When students listen to English language in the classroom, they face a lot of listening difficulties. This study aimed to explore the listening strategies students applied to overcome their listening problems by university students. This study was conducted in Academic Listening classes at English Language Education Program, Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (ELEP-UKSW). A lot of English Language Education students encountered some difficulties during listening activities in Academic Listening class. The participants of this study were thirty students from batch 2018 at ELEP-UKSW. The researcher used close-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interview to collect the data. The findings showed that the participants managed to use several strategies, such as note-taking strategy, some non-technical strategies like how to reduce anxiety. The results of this study support the view that implementing listening strategies is expected to benefit students who are taking academic listening class to help increase their listening ability in listening processes.
