Abstract: Sustainable social business, has the characteristics of sustainable business. These characteristics need to be known, so that social businesses can maintain these characteristics and ensure the sustainability of their business. Meanwhile, social business is also inseparable from various obstacles. These constraints need to be known and, so that social businesses can determine the right step or strategy in running their business, and ensure the sustainability of their business. The main objective of this study is to find out the characteristics ofsustainable social business, on the Sapu Upcycle waste treatment business, and the obstacles faced. The method used in this study is a qualitative method, with CV Sapu Upcycle, located in Salatiga, Central Java, as the object. Meanwhile the data collection was carried out by the interview method, and the data collected was processed using data source triangulation techniques. The results showed the characteristics of a sustainable social enterprise in Sapu Upcycle, such as the existence of social and ecological missions on an entrepreneur, a strong personality and management capacity of the entrepreneur, the ability to build networks with related parties. In addition, social business ventures face constraints, such as in raw materials and equipment, people's mindset and perception of products and product prices, availability of labor, and dependence on conventional promotional techniques and limitations in carrying out unconventional promotional techniques.
