Cantaloupe is one of the Cucurbitaceae family plants whose seeds have the potential as vegetable oil with good nutrition. This study aims to identify the squalene and αtocopherol content in purified cantaloupe seed oil. Extraction of cantaloupe seeds using nhexane solvent with maceration method. Then the oil is purified by degumming and neutralization processes to remove impurities and improve the quality of the oil. The yield of cantaloupe seed oil obtained was 22.34 ± 0.43%. After the refining process, the percent recovery of cantaloupe seed oil increased to 69.97 ± 0.67%, so that the average yield of pure oil was 15.62 ± 0.21%. Analysis of squalene and α-tocopherol levels of pure cantaloupe seed oil was carried out using a High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) instrument. The results of the analysis of the squalene content of cantaloupe seed oil were 10.336 μg/ml and the α-tocopherol content was 10.7 μg/ml. |
