Post-delivery becomes important, because the mother will be in a transition period of physical and psychological changes. During the transition period, the mother needs adjustment and during the adjustment period the mother is susceptible to stress and even depression. Symptoms of depression experienced by mothers after giving birth are known as postpartum depression. One of the factors associated with postpartum depression is social support. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between social support and postpartum depression in Javanese mothers after giving birth. The hypothesis of this study was that there was a negative relationship between social support and postpartum depression in Javanese mothers after giving birth. This study used a correlational quantitative research design and sampling using a purposive sampling technique on 34 postnatal Javanese mothers. The measuring instruments used in this study were the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and the Postpartum Social Support Questionnaire (PSSQ). The results showed the correlation coefficient (r) = 0.138 with a value of sig = 0.219 (p <0.05). This means that there was no negative relationship between social support and postpartum depression in Javanese mothers after giving birth, so the hypothesis proposed in this study is not accepted. |
