This study aims to obtain the optimal yield of melon seed oil (Cucumis melo L.) in terms of maceration and continuous extraction methods using a soxhlet extractor with each n-hexane and ethanol solvent and to determine the physico-chemical properties of melon seed oil before and after purification. Data were analyzed with Freedman NIR statistical parametric test to compare 2 solvents (n-hexane and ethanol) and two methods, namely continuous extraction using soxhlet extractor and maceration, each method was repeated 5 times. The results showed that the optimum yield of extraction of melon (Cucumis melo L.) oil extract was 23,676 ± 0,446% using a continuous extraction method with soxhlet and hexane solvent. The purification process affected the physical physicochemical properties of melon seed oil in color, density, water content, and also had an effect on reducing acid number, peroxide number and saponification number from 1,248 ± 0 mg NaOH / g to 0,416 ± 0 mg NaOH / g, 0.566 ± 0.040 mequiv O2 / g to 0.274 ± 0 mequiv O2 / g and 188.589 ± 1.147 mg KOH / g to 182.424 ± 0.79 mg KOH / g. |
