Translation Strategies of Figurative Language Analysis on Simile and Metaphor in The Hunger Games Novel by Suzanne Collins

Abstract

This study aimed to analyses metaphors and similes that are found in The Hunger Games Novel by Suzanne Collins. There are many kinds of figurative language in this novel so the researcher chose this novel as the object of the study focusing on metaphors and similes. This study purposes to analyses what are metaphors and similes which found in the novel and how are the strategies applied by the translator to translate metaphor and simile. To analyses the strategies, the researcher used Larson’s theory as basis of this study. In additions this study also used qualitative descriptive to collect the data. The data were collected by reading and taking note from both versions, then the researcher classifying and analyzing the techniques based on Larson’s theory. The researcher found four out of five techniques which used by the translator to translate metaphors and similes. It could be concluded the most translation strategies which frequently used is by translated source text into sense in target text. The translator rendering metaphors and simile properly based on Larson’s theory.
