Abstract: Konstruk penelitian didasarkan pada fenomena yang melingkupi alasan mengapa pengusaha memilih usaha sendiri atau waralaba sebagai cara untuk memasuki dunia bisnis. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dan subjek penelitian adalah bisnis restoran di Salatiga. Adapun tujuan penelitian yang hendak dicapai adalah (1) Menjelaskan pertimbangan khusus pelaku bisnis restoran memilih usaha sendiri, (2) Menjelaskan pertimbangan khusus pelaku bisnis restoran memilih waralaba. Penelitian ini meneliti 10 orang pelaku bisnis restoran di Kota Salatiga dimana 5 orang pelaku bisnis yang memilih usaha sendiri dan 5 orang pelaku bisnis yang memilih waralaba melalui wawancara mendalam. Hasil penelitian mengidentifikasi bahwa pilihan pelaku bisnis yang memilih usaha sendiri dipengaruhi oleh pull factor serta karakteristik atau jiwa wirausaha yang dimiliki pelaku bisnis sementara waralaba dipengaruhi teman, citra perusahaan, goodwill produk, wilayah waralaba yang ekslusif, serta sistem dan informasi franchise.
The research constructs are based on a phenomenon that covers the reasons why businessman choose their own business or franchise as a way to enter the business world. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative and research subject is restaurant business in Salatiga. The objectives of the research to be achieved are (1) Explain the special consideration of restaurant business choose own business, (2) Explain the special consideration of the restaurant business choose a franchise. This study examines 10 restaurant business people in Salatiga City where 5 business people choose their own business and 5 business people who choose franchise through in-depth interview. The results of the study identify that the choice of business actors who choose their own business is influenced by the pull factor (Basu and Goswani 1999) as well as the characteristics or entrepreneurial spirit of the business owner while the franchise is influenced by friends, company image, goodwill of product, exclusive franchise area, system and information about franchise.
