Abstract: | This study attempts to find out the strategies used in translating metaphors in the novel “Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban” novel by J. K. Rowling. Metaphors which compare two unrelated things indirectly without using any expressions of comparison are often used in literary works such as short stories, poetry, and novels. Translating a metaphor is challenging as it cannot be understood literally if the metaphor is to be fully translated literally. Therefore, a deep understanding is needed in order to be able to understand the meaning of metaphors. The data were collected by listing the metaphors from the source text and the translated version. The data were analyzed by using metaphor translation strategies which are proposed by Larson (1984). There are four metaphor translation strategies that the researcher managed to identify and examined throughout the process of research. The hope is that the findings is expected to help the study of meaning related to metaphors and also it can be useful for the readers who want to have research on metaphor translation. |
