Title: An Analysis of Simile and Metaphor Translation in the Joy Luck Club and Its Translation

Abstract: This study analyzes the translation of simile and metaphor in the novel The Joy Luck Club and its Indonesian Translation. The data were taken from the original novel of The Joy Luck Club and its Indonesian translation novel. Then the data were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method using the in-depth comprehension of the information where the data consist of phrases classified as simile and metaphor. The phrases then later analyzed using Larson’s techniques and Larson’s analysis on propositional structure. The analysis showed that there were 4 techniques used with technique 1 being the most used in simile with 28 data, The figurative language was successfully translated with in-depth analysis based on the context. It can be concluded that the translation has successfully translated simile and metaphor with careful consideration according to the technique by Larson.
