This study aims to determine the relationship between illness perception and sense of coherence (SOC) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Participants in this study were 58 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Kedungmundu Health Center in Semarang City and used purposive sampling technique. The method of data collection is using brief illness perception questionnaire (BIPQ) which referenced by Leventhal's self-regulation model (Broadbent et al, 2006) and using sense of coherence scale (SOC-29) which referenced by Antonovsky's theory (1987). The result from this study shows correlation coefficient (𝑟 = 0.536 with a significance value of 0,000 (p <0.05) which means there is a significant positive relationship between illness perception and sense of coherence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Kedungmundu Health Center, Semarang City. |
