Abstract: | This study aims to analyze the translation of cultural words from P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han and its translation in Bahasa Indonesia by Airien Kusumawardani. Cultural issues are one of the translation problems often faced by translators. Translators have to understand both the Source Text (ST) and the Target Text (TT) culture so that they could to be able to translate the cultural words well. According to Newmark (1988), cultural words are grouped in several categories: 1) ecology, 2) material culture, 3) social culture, 4) social organisation, and 5) gestures and habits. The researcher focuses on analyzing the material culture or archetypes. The category of material culture found in this research are clothes and food. The research findings of the material types of cultural words are analyzed using the translation techniques by Molina and Albir (2002). |
