English-Indonesian Translation of Idiomatic Expression In Nevermoor "The Trials of Morrigan Crow" by Jessica Townsend

Abstract

This study described a study about an analysis of English-Indonesian Idioms in the Novel Nevermoor: 'The Trials of Morrigan Crow' By Jessica Townsend. This study aims to find out the English-Indonesian Translation of idiomatic expressions and the strategies the translator applies in translating idioms from the source language (SL) to the target language (TL). This study's data are in the form of idiomatic expressions obtained from the English novel Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow and the Indonesian version with the same title. The researcher uses several theories from experts to support this research to answer the problem formulations used. One of the researchers used to answer the problem is the theory of strategies to translate idioms belonging to Mona Baker (2018), which is applied to answer the two problems formulated in this study: 1) Using an Idiom of Similar Meaning and Form, 2) Idiom of similar meaning but Different Form, 3) Translation by Borrowing the Source Language Idiom, 4)Paraphrase, 5) Translation by Omission of play on the idiom, and 6) Translation by Omission of entire Idiom. The researcher hopes that this research will show the idiomatic expression in the novel Nevermoor and the strategies used to translate English idioms into Indonesian.
