Abstract: This study investigates the most dominant factor contributing to Indonesian students’ anxiety in the EFL classrooms based on Horwitz, Horwitz, & Cope’s (1986) Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS). Participants of this study were 50 Indonesian EFL students in Central Java, Indonesia, sharing similar backgrounds experiencing anxiety in EFL classroom situations. Results from questionnaires and interviews reveal that 80 percent of the students suffered from High and Moderate Anxiety Levels, and only 20 percent suffered from Low Anxiety Levels. This study also identified Communication Apprehension as the most dominant factor contributing to the students’ anxiety, followed by Fear of Negative Evaluation and Test Anxiety.
