Abstract: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui atau menganalisa bagaimana penggunaan taktik impression management yang dilakukan oleh Joko Widodo melalui akun instagram nya @Jokowi, dalam menghadapi hoax menjelang Pilpres 2019. Jokowi pada era digital ini sadar bahwa menggunakan sosial media khususnya instagram lebih memudahkan untuk berkomunikasi atau memberi informasi kepada masyarakat luas. Akan tetapi media sosial kini juga telah menjadi sarana dan rentan akan penyebaran berita bohong atau akrab di sebut hoax. Sebagai orang yang sudah menjabat menjadi presiden atau disebut kubu pertahanan, menjadi target utama hoax adalah suatu hal yang harus Jokowi hadapi menjelang Pilpres 2019. Melalui akun Instagram nya @Jokowi, Joko Widodo menggunakan taktik impression management Jones dan Pittman dalam menghadapi hoax-hoax tersebut. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwasannya Jokowi menggunakan semua lima taktik impression management dalam menghadapi hoax jelang Pilpres 2019, meliputi ingratiation, self promotion, exemplification, intimidation, dan supllication. Taktik ingratiation lah yang paling sering digunakan @Jokowi pada masa jelang Pilpres 2019, yang memberikannya impressi sebagai orang yang baik, menarik, dan kompeten.
This research was conducted to find out or analyze how the use of impression management tactics carried out by Joko Widodo through his Instagram account @Jokowi, in dealing with hoaxes ahead of the 2019 presidential election. Jokowi in this digital era realized that using social media especially instagram made it easier to communicate or provide information to the wider community. However, social media has now also become a means and vulnerable to the spread of lies or familiarly called hoaxes. As someone who has served as President or called a stronghold, being the main target of hoaxes is something that Jokowi must face before the 2019 Presidential Election. Through his Instagram account @Jokowi, Joko Widodo uses impression management tactics Jones and Pittman in dealing with these hoaxes. The results of this study found that Jokowi used all five impression management tactics in dealing with hoaxes ahead of the 2019 presidential election, including ingratiation, self promotion, exemplification, intimidation, and suplication. Ingratiation tactics were the most frequently used @Jokowi in the lead up to the 2019 Presidential Election, which gave him the impression of being a good, attractive, and competent person.
