Background: Belief in and the use of mystical things, has the main goal to protect oneself, but in its journey, witchcraft or doti (in the language of the people in Halmahera) shifts into activities to "harm others". Indirectly, the belief in doti illustrates the mental situation of the local people who are unable to face life's challenges (from the perpetrator's point of view). In the same situation, it was also felt by the surrounding community who tended to be afraid or anxious and suspicious of the existence of doti practitioners. Purpose: This study provides an overview of the mental health conditions of the people of North Halmahera who still believe in the practice of doti. Method: A qualitative method was used in this study to collect data on four communities in North Halmahera whose families had experienced doti. The four were selected using the Key Informant technique. Results: From the results of the study, two major themes were obtained, namely Cultural beliefs: Doti in the inland and coastal communities of North Halmahera and Cultural understanding: Doti and the mental health conditions of the inland and coastal communities of North Halmahera. Conclusion: Feelings of fear, anxiety and worry are mental health conditions for the people of North Halmahera who still believe in doti. This then makes people have suspicious behavior towards other people. |
