Abstract: | This research aims to discover what happened to African-Americans as seen in the novel. This research has the purpose to reveal unfairness about white supremacy in the novel Small Great Things through Ruth as the main character and focused on how the effect of binary opposition and white supremacy gives impact non-white inferiority by themselves. This research used a descriptive method with the deconstruction approach by Derrida, which attempts to describe and interpret the objects by reality. The data was collected by reading the novel, taking notes of important parts, and then compiling the related data. The “colored” stereotype in South African literature. Findings have shown that the African-American people were well-educated and had knowledge of their profession. |
