Fungsi Tutur Siwaluh dalam Relasi Sosial Pelayan GBKP Teuku Umar (Kajian Agama dan Kebudayaan)

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis pandangan pelayan gereja terhadap fungsi Tutur Siwaluh dalam relasi sosial pelayan GBKP Teuku Umar. Fokus penelitian ini ialah pelayan (serayan) Gereja Batak Karo Protestan (GBKP) Teuku Umar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan penulis menunjukkan bahwa budaya Tutur Siwaluh yang merupakan salah satu unsur dalam konsep ertutur yang fungsinya menetukan kedudukan, sistem kekerabatan dan sapaan seseorang dalam relasi sosial dan berbudaya. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian penulis menemukah bahwa ternyata dalam kehidupan berpelayanan Tutur Siwaluh hanya dipahami dalam tataran ide saja namun, dalam praktiknya masih kurang. Hal ini terlihat dalam cara mereka berkomunikasi antara pelayan satu dengan pelayan lainnya. Mereka tidak menggunakan sapaan atau panggilan yang ada dalam sistem Tutur Siwaluh. Para pelayan berperilaku baik atau bersosial baik karena adanya tuntutan dan aturan yang diikat oleh gereja. Fenomena ini terjadi dikarenakan kurangnya pemahaman mengenai budaya terlebih pemahaman fungsi Tutur Siwaluh. Jika dinilai dalam teori Clifford Geertz dan Hebert Blumer tidak sesuai karena Geertz mengatakan agama dan kebudayaan bisa saling mengisi dan berjalan bersama. Blumer juga mengatakan bahwa relasi sosial dapat berjalan dengan baik membutuhkan sebuah simbol yang ideal.

This study aims to determine and analyze the views of church servants on the function of Tutur Siwaluh in the social relations of GBKP Teuku Umar servants. The focus of this research is the servant (serayan) of the Batak Karo Protestant Church (GBKP) Teuku Umar. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The results of the research conducted by the author shows that the Tutur Siwaluh culture is one of the elements in the ertutur concept whose function is to determine one's position, kinship system and greeting in social and cultural relations. Based on the results of the research, the authors found that in service life Tutur Siwaluh is only understood as an idea, however, in practice it is still very much lacking. This can be seen in the way they communicate between one servant and another. They do not use greetings or calls that are in the Tutur Siwaluh. The servants behave well or socialize well because of the demands and rules that are bound by the church. This phenomenon occurs due to a lack of understanding of culture, especially understanding the function of Tutur Siwaluh. If judged using theories made by Clifford Geertz and Hebert Blumer it is not appropriate because Geertz said religion and culture can complement each other and work together. Blumer also said that in order for social relations to work well they require an ideal symbol.
