This research sheds light on the expatriate–local relationship based on local employees’ (Host Country Nationals) perspectives of expatriate managers. Drawing on a survey of Indonesian HCN workingin Korean Multinational Companies, the study explores HCNviews on expatriate managers and its impact on HCN.The aim of this study is to find out the correlations between cross-cultural competency, leadership style, and emotional intelligence (EI) of Korean expatriates toward Indonesian HCNs’ motivation of working, as well as the job performance. This study uses a quantitative approach in which samples are obtained from several HCN Korean companies in Central Java. The study reveals that generally, HCN’s motivation of working is stimulated mostly by the leadership style used by Korean expatriates, rather than cross-cultural competence and emotional intelligence. The study also points out that HCN’s motivation of working significantly influence their performance—in which will eventually intensify subsidiary’s performance as well.
