Abstract: | This study aims to find empirical evidence of the influence of family ownership on social disclosures with independent commissioners as moderation variables. Social disclosures were measured using a weight of 52 indicators on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) covering the banking sector, financial institution sector, securities company sector, insurance sector and other/public sectors in 2018. This research sample uses 98 financial industry companies in Indonesia recorded in the BEI (Indonesia Stock Exchange) in the period 2018-2021 with 389 observations. The research hypothesis was tested using the panel data regression analysis technique. The results prove that the higher the ownership of the family, especially direct ownership of the family, the lower the social disclosures conducted by the company. However, family ownership directly has a positive effect on social disclosures when independent commissioners are taken into account. The higher the proportion of independent commissioners in the company, the stronger influence of family ownership directly on social disclosures, especially social disclosures on employment and decent work. These findings support the type of II agency that the ownership of the family as the majority shareholder increased the agency's conflict with the reduction of social disclosure activities. |
