Abstract: Penelitian deskriptif kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemahaman konsep bilangan berpangkat siswa SMP yang ditinjau berdasarkan tahapan teori APOS. Subjek terdiri dari 3 siswa kelas IX SMP Kristen Satya Wacana yang diambil secara purposive dan memiliki kemampuan matematika yang berbeda-beda dengan kategori berkemampuan tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Instrumen penelitian utama adalah peneliti dibantu instrumen pendukung berupa 4 soal tes pemahaman konsep bilangan berpangkat dan pedoman wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukan tingkat pemahaman konsep ketiga siswa yang menjadi subjek penelitian mengenai materi bilangan berpangkat berdasarkan teori APOS berbeda-beda satu dengan yang lainnya. Siswa berkemampuan tinggi mampu mencapai skema karena siswa memiliki kemampuan matematika tinggi dan mampu mengembangkan konsep dengan baik. Pemahaman konsep yang dimiliki siswa berkemampuan sedang sangat kurang karena siswa hanya mampu mencapai tahap aksi, hal ini disebabkan karena siswa melakukan kesalahan dalam pemahaman konsep sifat-sifat pengoperasian bilangan berpangkat. Siswa berkemampuan rendah mampu mencapai tahap objek, dimana siswa masih keliru dalam operasi hitung pada soal bilangan berpangkat.
This descriptive qualitative research aims to describe the ability to understand the concept of rank numbers of junior high school students based on the stages of APOS theory. The subjects consisted of 3 students in grade IX of Satya Wacana Christian Junior High School who were taken purposively and had different mathematical abilities in the categories of high, medium, and low ability. The main research instrument is the researcher assisted by supporting instruments in the form of 4 test questions on understanding the concept of rank numbers and interview guidelines. The results showed that the level of conceptual understanding of the three students who became the research subjects on the subject of rank number material based on APOS theory was different from one another. High ability students are able to achieve schemes because students have high mathematical abilities and are able to develop concepts well. The understanding of concepts possessed by medium ability students is very lacking because students are only able to reach the action stage, this is because students make mistakes in understanding the concept of the properties of operating power numbers. Low ability students are able to reach the object stage, where students are still mistaken in calculating operations on the problem of power numbers.
