Abstract: | In the digital era, cancel culture has emerged as a powerful force, often resulting in the
exclusion and condemnation of individuals who violate societal norms. This research centers on the intriguing phenomenon of cancel culture within the context of the #RACHELVENNYA case. This incident revolves around an influencer's breach of quarantine regulations during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through comprehensive investigation, this study seeks to dissect the prevalent trend of eliminating dissenting opinions within cancel culture dynamics.
Employing qualitative methodology, including in-depth interviews, the study endeavours to unravel the intricate process that propels this trend. By examining the motivations driving both the act of cancelling and the decision not to cancel, the research aims to uncover the underlying forces that contribute to the rapid proliferation of cancel culture. Additionally, the study delves into the potential effects of this trend on public discourse and opinion formation. This research holds the potential to shed light on the multifaceted aspects of cancel culture,
unveiling the mechanisms behind the elimination of differing viewpoints. Through a thorough exploration of motivations, dynamics, and consequences, the study provides a comprehensive analysis of cancel culture's impact on digital discussions and social dynamics, and ultimately underscores the necessity for fostering inclusive, respectful online dialogues. Di era digital ini, cancel culture muncul sebagai fenomena kuat yang berdampak pada pengucilan dan kecaman terhadap individu yang melanggar norma masyarakat. Penelitian ini berfokus fenomena cancel culture dalam konteks kasus #RACHELVENNYA yang telah melanggar peraturan karantina sebagai influencer pada awal pandemic COVID-19 yang lalu. Dengan menggunakan metodologi kualitatif dan in-depth interview, penelitian ini berusaha mengungkap proses rumit yang mendorong tren menghilangkan perbedaan pendapat. Dengan meneliti motivasi yang mendorong baik tindakan cancelling maupun keputusan untuk tidak cancelling. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan kekuatan mendasar yang berkontribusi terhadap berkembang pesatnya cancel culture. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menggali potensi efek dari tren menghilangkan perbedaan pendapat pada diskusi publik dan pembentukan opini. Penelitian ini memiliki potensi untuk menjelaskan berbagai aspek cancel culture, mengungkap mekanisme di balik tren menghilangkan perbedaan pendapat. Melalui eksplorasi menyeluruh terhadap motivasi, dinamika, dan konsekuensi, studi ini memberikan analisis komprehensif tentang dampak cancel culture pada diskusi digital dan dinamika sosial, dan pada akhirnya menggarisbawahi perlunya mendorong dialog online yang inklusif dan saling menghormati. |
