Women's Position in The Culture Prohibited Pela Marriages in Saparua Island, Maluku. Nona Pela

Abstract

Prohibiting marriage between Pela is a cultural tradition in Maluku, especially between the villages of Itawaka and Porto on the island of Saparua. In the ban on marriage between Pela, there was inequality between the positions of men and women. This study aims to find out the position of women in the Pela marriage prohibition culture in Itawaka village and Porto village. The short story entitled 'Nona Pela' describes the position of women in the prohibition of marriage in Pela culture. The female Character is considered as the second sex which is the Position of the womaninequality is when women are considered objects by men, women must obey, women do not get rights such as freedom of expression, women cannot influence the care and protection of their children, and the most apparent sanctions are in the form of lousy judgment from family and society which results in the perpetrator will ostracize.
