Pemahaman Konsep Bentuk Aljabar Mahasiswa Calon Guru Matematika

Abstract

Pemahaman akan suatu konsep dapat membantu proses pemahaman konsep lainnya dan dapat membantu pula dalam pemecahan masalah. Oleh karenanya penting untuk memiliki pemahaman konsep yang benar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pemahaman mahasiswa calon guru matematika dalam memahami konsep Bentuk Aljabar. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa calon guru matematika dari Pendidikan Matematika UKSW. Fokus pemahaman konsep bentuk aljabar yang digali adalah definisi bentuk aljabar dan unsur-unsurnya, dan penggunaan konsep bentuk aljabar untuk menyusun model matematika dan menyelesaikan masalah dari situasi tertentu.. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan subjek dalam menyatakan ulang konsep bentuk aljabar tidak selalu diikuti oleh kemampuan dalam mengklasifikasikan objek, memberikan contoh dan bukan contoh bentuk aljabar, merepresentasikan suatu kalimat dalam bentuk aljabar, serta menentukan syarat perlu dan cukup dari suatu bentuk aljabar. Dalam mengaplikasikan konsep bentuk aljabar dalam proses pemecahan masalah, keterampilan menerapkan prinsip/ prosedur pada bentuk aljabar sebatas prosedur rutin dan bukan karena pemahaman yang menyeluruh akan konsep bentuk aljabar. Atas dasar itulah diperlukan pengecekkan pemahaman konsep bentuk aljabar mahasiswa calon guru dalam mengambil mata kuliah dasar terkait aljabar.

Understanding a concept can help the process of understanding other concepts and also in solving problems. Therefore it is important to have a correct understanding of the concept. This research aims to find out how prospective mathematics teacher students understand the concept of Algebraic Forms. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this research were prospective mathematics teacher students from UKSW Mathematics Education. The focus of understanding the concept of algebraic forms that is explored is the definition of algebraic forms and their elements, and the use of these concepts to construct mathematical models and solve problems from certain situations. The results show that the subject's ability to restate the concept of algebraic forms is not always followed by the ability to classify objects, providing examples and non-examples of algebraic forms, representing a sentence in algebraic form, and determining the necessary and sufficient conditions for an algebraic form. In applying the concept of algebraic forms in the problem solving process, the skill of applying principles/procedures in algebraic forms is limited to routine procedures and not due to a thorough understanding of algebraic forms. On this basis, it is necessary to check the understanding of algebraic forms of prospective teacher students when taking basic courses related to algebra.
