Abstract: Writing is one skill that students need to learn and master. However, writing itself has several processes that are quite long to become a complete draft. From that, sometimes students feel unmotivated because they find that the writing process is quite long and they might lose interest and lose their motivation to write. Therefore, teachers need to use strategies to boost students' motivation in writing. This study investigates how students perceive the motivational strategies that their writing teachers use, and whether the motivational strategies used can motivate students in writing. This study used online questionnaires to collect the data and the participants were students of the English Language Education Department who had passed writing courses. Analysis of the responses show that feedback is useful motivational strategies in writing and can affect students' motivation to write. The result indicated that feedback has an impact in motivating students to write and can boost their interest to write. On this basis, feedback is recommended to be prioritized in writing classes as a pedagogical tool for fostering motivation.
