Title: Teachers' Perceptions Toward the Use of Storytelling to Teach English to Senior High School Students

Abstract: Storytelling is one of the helpful teaching methods in the English language classroom. Here, the use of storytelling is not only advantageous for students at young levels. Students in higher levels can also get the advantages of storytelling too. As a consequence, the researcher inquired about the teacher’s perceptions toward the use of storytelling in Senior High School (SHS). Therefore, the aim of this study was to discover the teachers’ perceptions about the use of storytelling to teach students in secondary level. This present study used a qualitative method with semi-structured interview as the instrument. The participants of this study were four English teachers from two different SHS that are located in Salatiga, Central Java. This study found three major findings that are; teachers' reasons for using storytelling, the challenges encountered when using storytelling in SHS, and ways to ensure that storytelling is engaging for SHS students. As the findings of this study, the participants mentioned that the challenges faced by the teachers could also be faced by the students. Therefore, even if there are challenges encountered by both the teachers and the students, it still has ways to deal with those challenges. It is anticipated that this research will enhance teachers' awareness of utilizing storytelling for English language learning, especially in SHS.
