Abstract: This study discusses the translation metaphor and simile using the translation procedure by Newmark in the novel The Secret Garden which was translated by Ruziati become Taman Rahasia. The aims of this study are to find out the metaphor and simile in the novel The Secret Garden and to know the translation procedure that was used by the translator in translating the metaphor and simile found in the novel The Secret Garden. The data in this study are phrases and clauses in the novel using descriptive qualitative approach methods. This research discussed 7 out of 19 data found in the novel by applying the translation procedures by Peter Newmark. The result showed that from 7 translation procedures of metaphor and simile by Newmark, the translator only applied three translation procedures: the metaphor is reproduced with the same image in target language (TL), The metaphor is replaced with a standard target language that doesn’t clash with TL’s culture, and the metaphor is translated into a simile. In this study, the most common procedure used by the translator to translate the metaphor and simile in the novel The Secret Garden was reproducing the same image in the target language.
