Abstract: The study was conducted to examine to what extent speaking exercises/activities of the textbook which was used in SDN Pakis 02 Bringin embodies the communicative activities proposed by Richards and Rodgers (2006). The English textbook that was being analyzed entitle Permata, Pendorong Kreatifitas Belajar Siswa volume 6 for 2nd semester (Surya Badra Team, 2012). The focus of the study was to analyze the speaking exercises/activities inside the English textbook. The findings showed that the speaking exercises/activities did not really represent the concept of communicative activities. Besides, the speaking exercises/activities were considered not communicative enough to be used in teaching and learning English based on its group-individual work, its degree of fluency-accuracy and its meaningful-mechanical practice.
