Issue Date: 9-Sep-2024
Abstract: Delivering oral presentations encourages students to present their projects in the speaking class, which is an effective tool for developing communicative competence. However, anxiety in speaking is considered a significant obstacle to the student’s performance. Anxiety in speaking during presentations makes students not confident and afraid of making mistakes. The study aims to identify the factors that impact students' speaking anxiety toward presentations. This study used a quantitative method for questionnaire-based data collection. Thirty-five participants were students majoring in the English Language Education program batch 2021 at a private university in Salatiga, Central Java. The result of contributing factors to students’ speaking anxiety during presentations was low self-confidence, fear of making mistakes, friends or classmates, and students’ shyness. After knowing the factors in these students, it is recommended to reduce presentation anxiety and improve students' oral presentation skills.
