This study discusses the role of the elders in developing the spirituality of Sunday School children at the HKBP Sragen Church. As one of the church servants, the elders have a significant responsibility in guiding children to understand and live the Christian faith through various pedagogical methods. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze how the elders educate Sunday School children in a modern context influenced by technological developments and lifestyles. The results of the study show that the role of the elders includes teaching the Word of God, praying together, creative activities, group discussions, spiritual retreats, and the positive use of technological media. Paulo Freire's problem-posing education method is applied to encourage children to think critically and be actively involved in learning. The challenges faced include the influence of technology, generational differences, and limited resources. However, the elders try to overcome them by innovating teaching methods and strengthening emotional and social relationships with children. This study concludes that the elders play an important role in building the spirituality of Sunday School children as the next generation of the church. It is necessary to develop relevant teaching methods, increase the capacity of the elders through training, and provide stronger support from the church community to face modern challenges. |
