Classical Music Background in EFL High School Students' Creative Writing Activities

Abstract

Classical music, apart from its usage in entertainment society, has been frequently incorporated into educational settings. There have been positive and negative findings in earlier research on the impact of classical music background on specific tasks. Therefore, this research aims to find out if high school students enjoy listening to classical music while completing creative writing exercises, as well as to disclose the benefits it has for them. A total of three high school students completed two small experiments of doing creative writing activities while being exposed to classical music background. This study used interviews as the main tool to collect the data. The findings showed that while completing creative writing activities, high school students enjoy listening to classical music in the background. Additionally, there are a number of benefits related to this practice; expressing themselves better, building their imagination, drafting, generating ideas, getting inspiration, and staying focused. The findings are crucial for parents, teachers, and students to enhance and improve students ‘academic achievement by incorporating classical music background in the learning process.
