Abstract: This Quasi Experimental research aims to know the effectiveness of “snowball throwing” active learning strategies towards the results of students' mathematics study. The subjects are grade VIII C (experimental group) and grade VIII-B (control group) in SMP Negeri 2 Tuntang semester II in school year 2012/2013. Datas were collected by tests methods , pre-test as a prior test which is given before the treatment and post-test which is given after the treatment. They are used to test the results of uji-t differences between the two classes, learning about mathematics and counting n-gain to calculate the results of the students, the increase in mathematics learning in order to know the effectiveness of snowball throwing strategy. The result obtained from uji-t research indicated the results of the study with significance 0,000 < 0.05 which means there is a significant difference between the study grade VIII C and grade VIII-B. Value n-gain obtained by grade VIIIC showed 0.34 to grade level categorized, its effectiveness and to grade VIIIB obtained n-gain 00.04 and the value of its effectiveness is categorized as low. The result showed that there are difference results and learning about mathematics students on grade VIIIC value n-gain show the level of its effectiveness larger than the grade VIIIB, so that the use of a strategy of learning active snowball throwing effective against the result of learning about mathematics student on any material geometric the flat side class VIII in SMPN 2 Tuntang.
