Local orange fruit is one of the horticultural commodities that is in great demand in the Salatiga traditional market. This research aims to: 1) identify factors that influence demand for local citrus fruit, and 2) analyze the elasticity of demand for local citrus fruit. The type of research is quantitative descriptive with a total of 30 respondents in the Salatiga traditional fruit market. Data were analyzed using the Cobb-Douglas regression model to evaluate the effect of local citrus fruit price variables, substitute goods prices (papaya), consumer income, length of education, and number of family members on demand. Price elasticity, cross elasticity and income elasticity are also calculated to understand the sensitivity of demand to changes in these variables. The research results show that 1) the factors that significantly influence the demand for local citrus fruit are the price of local oranges and the number of family members, while the price of papaya, income and education have no effect; and 2) local demand for oranges is price elastic (ε = -1.588), which means that a 1% price increase reduces demand by 1.588%. However, the cross elasticity for papaya (ε = 0.227) and income elasticity (ε = 0.024) are not significant, indicating that changes in papaya prices and consumer income have no real effect on local orange demand. |
