In the current digital age, people have universal access to information and communication. Generation Z dominates the use of social media and tends to seek instant gratification as a consequence of the fast-paced environment. This phenomenon results in the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among Generation Z. When individuals are unable to participate in significant moments, they often experience anxiety and fear of social rejection, which correlates with increased levels of psychological loneliness. This study analyzes the relationship between loneliness and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) in Generation Z users on social media platforms. Applying quantitative methodology and Pearson correlation analysis, the study identified a significant positive correlation between the two variables (r = 0.367, p < 0.01). The results show that Generation Z in Indonesia who have limitations in direct social interaction tend to compensate for this by increasing their activity on social media. This behavior can be seen from their efforts to seek recognition from others and the constant desire to know the latest information that is popular on various social media platforms. |
