Abstract: | Translating idioms in a movie is one of the challenging tasks translators may face in the field of translation, especially when working between two different languages such as English and Indonesian. The differences in cultural and linguistic references make it complicated for translators to maintain the idiomatic form and intended meaning of the SL. This research analyzes the translation strategies and their accuracy in rendering idioms in “The Fall Guy” movie. Using a qualitative method, the findings show there are 85 idioms. The translator used three of Baker's four strategies, with translation by paraphrase being the most frequently used strategy. Although using an idiom of similar meaning and form strategy shows 100% accuracy, finding a direct equivalent is not always possible. Therefore, translation by paraphrase strategy effectively conveys the meaning of SL expressions when the TL equivalents are not found. Although the result is less figurative, it maintains clear comprehensibility. |
