Abstract: This study attempted to provide a description of motivation that the students of college level had in learning English for a specific purpose based on Decy and Ryan's Self-determination Theory (1985). The research participants were 40 students of Law Faculty, Satya Wacana Christian University who responded to 25 items of AMTB questionnaire (Gardner, 1985). Using descriptive method, the results revealed that generally the students had Integrative Regulation (88%) and Intrinsic Motivation (70,5%) in learning English. Therefore, they were motivated in learning English because of personal satisfaction in doing it, and for the beneficial outcome that English would enable them to get a good job and to converse with various people.
