Abstract: Indonesian religiosity as formulated in our 1945 Constitution is not merely a political compromise of the founding fathers, but rather is the result of rational deliberation (discourse) of different religious followers across Indonesia to express their religiosity in a distinctive way. The problem of religious plurality as one of the major obstacles in Indonesia has challenged the founding fathers to do a public reasoning over their religious traditions. As a result, Indonesia has gained a different religious perspective that was different significantly from religious understandings brought from their place of origin. Reading from political philosophy point of view, the founders of the nation have done public reasoning over their religious beliefs by expanding their religious horizons that tended to be exclusive. By so doing, they created a religious understanding of inclusive and transformative. The practice of rational deliberation of founding fathers in the formulation of the basic norms of nationhood has its conceptual articulation in the political philosophy of Jurgen Habermas, namely the theory of deliberative democracy. Deliberative democratic an open deliberation, an honest debate, and a rational discussion without the domination of one party over the other in order to reach a common consensus - has been practiced by the founders of the nation, especially in formulating the religiosity of Indonesia. Philosophically, it can be considered as invaluable achievement as it has considered the principles of the democratic constitutional state that uphold rational discourse in solving any problems experienced by the nation.
